Alma Lemon Slawinski

Alma Lemon Slawinski was born on January 27, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After completing high school at Altheimer High School in Altheimer, Arkansas, Alma pursued higher education at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and English and a Master of Arts in Theatre.  

After teaching for several years in Arkansas, Missouri, and Wharton, Texas, Alma moved to Rosenberg, Texas, where she dedicated 35 years to teaching theatre and speech at Lamar Consolidated High School. Her commitment to education and the arts earned her numerous awards from Lamar CISD and the International Thespian Society. In recognition of her impact on theatre education in Texas, Texas Thespians established the Alma Slawinski Leadership Award in her honor to recognize outstanding educators.  

After retiring in 1994, Alma remained active in her community. She led tours at the Astrodome, volunteered at OakBend Hospital, and served as an interpreter at George Ranch Historical Park. Alma was deeply involved with Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg, holding various positions and being especially active in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas organization.  

Alma Lemon Slawinski passed away on August 24, 2012. Her lifelong dedication to education, the arts, and community service continues to inspire generations. The opening of Slawinski Elementary School stands as a testament to her enduring influence and the bright futures she helped shape.
